Overview

1,275cc MPI | Manual | Restored & Tastefully Upgraded | GAZ Suspension | 4-Piston Brakes

Few cars are as instantly recognisable — or as much fun — as the classic Mini. We are delighted to offer this very attractive 1997 Rover Mini Cooper MPI, combining all the charm and character of the original Mini with a number of carefully chosen upgrades that make it an even more enjoyable car to drive.

Finished in classic Old English White with a contrasting Black roof, the Mini presents beautifully following a recent professional restoration. The exterior is complemented by traditional chrome detailing and Minilite-style alloy wheels fitted with Yokohama tyres, giving the car a purposeful yet period-correct appearance.

Inside, the cabin retains all the character expected of a late classic Mini Cooper. Highlights include a walnut dashboard, white-faced instrumentation, two-tone leather Cooper steering wheel and attractive black and cream upholstery, which remains in superb condition. The result is a wonderfully characterful interior that feels unmistakably Mini.

Power comes from Rover's 1,275cc four-cylinder MPI engine, producing approximately 63 bhp and driving through a manual gearbox. While modest on paper, the Mini's light weight, compact dimensions and famously agile handling make it an enormously entertaining car on the road.

Importantly, this example has also benefited from a number of worthwhile mechanical upgrades. Adjustable GAZ suspension improves the handling and stance, while a MiniSport four-piston front braking system provides considerably improved stopping performance. A Playmini sports exhaust combined with an LCB free-flow manifold adds a little extra performance and character to the soundtrack without detracting from the car's classic appeal. A new battery has also recently been fitted.

The odometer currently displays approximately 36,000 km. As this is a five-digit odometer, however, the total distance covered cannot be independently guaranteed. That said, the excellent condition of the interior and remarkably limited wear throughout the car are certainly consistent with a Mini that has led a well-cared-for life.

Another particularly important feature of this example is its exceptional structural condition. We have carefully inspected all of the areas in which classic Minis are particularly susceptible to corrosion and found the car to be rust-free in these usual problem areas, with no corrosion issues to report. As a preventative measure, we have also treated the entire underside with a light application of clear Dinitrol anti-corrosion wax to help preserve its excellent condition for years to come.

Compact, charismatic and hugely enjoyable to drive, this is a particularly appealing example of the late-production classic Mini. Its combination of traditional Cooper styling, excellent presentation and sensible mechanical upgrades makes it equally suited to weekend drives, classic-car events or simply enjoying one of Britain's most iconic cars on a regular basis.
